Inspired by the legendary Andrés Segovia, William Jenks continues to touch audiences across the Northwest with his beautiful interpretation of the classical guitar repertoire. Almost unheard of, he began playing the classical guitar at age 23 and dedicated himself to become a concert artist.
William Jenks is one of the most celebrated classical guitarists in the Northwest being labeled by audiences as the “Segovia of Portland”.
William performs in a broad range of venues small and large, including the opening concert of the Portland Classic Guitar concert series. William performs regularly at community events and special invitation performances as well as the ceremony and reception music for countless weddings across the Northwest.
At the age of six, his musical talent was discovered when he began performing choral music, which later led to his performance at Carnegie Hall in New York. He began his classical guitar studies at age 23 with Ken Johnson at Colorado Christian University where he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He also studied with world-renowned classical guitarists including Christopher Parkening, Scott Tennant, Ricardo Iznaola, David Franzen, Scott Kritzer and Bryan Johanson.
In addition to his performance career, William Jenks is also a highly acclaimed guitar instructor. He recently founded Oregon’s only exclusive classical guitar teaching studio and guitar shop known as Portland Classic Guitar where he holds regular student recitals and hosts Portland’s only Classical Guitar Concert series. He and his staff teach hundreds of students ranging in ages from 5 to 75 from beginners to advanced guitarists. To sample William’s music, click here.
